Update, April 10th - 5:30 p.m

Dear families,

As always the safety of our students and staff is a priority. As you are aware, there has been exposure to measles at Nicholson Catholic College. For that reason, Nicholson Catholic College and the ALCDSB site at Sir James Whitney School will be closed tomorrow. This will allow time for our staff and families to ensure they are up to date on their vaccination records.

We will provide an update on Sunday evening regarding school re-opening on Monday, April 14th.

We recognize this is an unusual situation and thank you for your understanding.

Thank you,

David DeSantis

Director of Education

Update, April 10th - 12:30 p.m.

Dear students and families,

South East Health Unit (SEHU) (formerly Hastings Prince Edward Public Health) is investigating a person with measles at Nicholson Catholic College. Individuals who attended Nicholson Catholic College on April 02 – April 04, 2025, may have been exposed to measles virus.

Measles is a highly contagious disease spread through the air by coughing, sneezing, and talking. Measles is contagious four (4) days before a person develops a rash and remains contagious until four (4) days after the rash appears.

Individuals who have had two valid doses of measles-containing vaccine (commonly provided as MMR or MMRV vaccine) or who have had a lab-confirmed infection are considered immune and may continue to attend school, child care and other activities. All others are asked to not attend Nicholson Catholic College until APRIL 25, 2025, inclusive.

*This information was sent home to all students and staff on April 10th.

For more information, please read the full letter from the South East Health Unit.
