Two Students Awarded Schulich Leader Scholarships

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to share that two students from our Catholic learning communities are recipients of prestigious scholarships.

Andrew Chisholm, Nicholson Catholic College, Belleville

Nicholson Catholic College student, Andrew Chisholm is recognized for his extraordinary blend of leadership, academic excellence, and character. A natural leader, Andrew served as a dedicated member of Nicholson’s student council for three years, where he consistently inspired his peers and spearheaded initiatives that brought lasting impact to his school community.

Andrew has maintained outstanding grades while pursuing a challenging course load in the International Baccalaureate program. In addition to his studies, Andrew competes at the highest level in athletics. As a high-performance athlete representing his country in international competitions, Andrew’s ability to balance rigorous training schedules and time away from school with academic success is a testament to his discipline, time management, and resilience.

Beyond his achievements, Andrew is known for his kindhearted nature, authenticity, and sincere commitment to helping others. Whether mentoring younger students, encouraging teammates, or supporting classmates, Andrew leads with humility and compassion.

Andrew Chisholm embodies the spirit of the Schulich Leader Scholarship — a driven, talented, and principled individual who will undoubtedly make meaningful contributions to his chosen field and community.

Victoria Elkington, Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, Kingston

Victoria Elkington has been selected to receive a $120,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship to study Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University.

A graduate of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Kingston, Ontario, Elkington will be entering Queen’s Engineering this Fall. Elkington was selected by a committee of educators for her outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements. This is the first Nominee to win a Schulich Leader Scholarship at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School.

With the help of this scholarship, Tori is excited and grateful about the financial independence she will have and the greater opportunities for her to fully embrace her Engineering degree at Queen's University. Financial concerns and the need for employment during the school year lifted, Tori can now focus entirely on her education, engage in leadership opportunities, and make the most of everything that Queen's, the Faculty of Engineering, and this award have to offer.

About Schulich Leader Scholarships Canada

Recognizing the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations, businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich established this $100+ million scholarship fund in 2012 to encourage our best and brightest students to become Schulich Leader Scholars: the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators.

Through The Schulich Foundation, these prestigious entrance scholarships are awarded to 100 high school graduates enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at 20 partner universities in Canada. Every high school in Canada can submit one Schulich Leader Nominee per academic year based on academic excellence in STEM, entrepreneurial leadership, and financial need.
